The Best things to do in Dallas in the fall

Saturday, March 06, 2010

One of the major reasons why Dallas apartment continues to be one of the most popular to live in is because it offers a little bit of everything to everyone. It is a city rich with sports, outdoor activities and even first class downtown sightseeing. The fall is a great time to get outdoors as the summers here can be a bit oppressive, so if you have the kids off safely in school and you want to get out and enjoy this great city, here are a few tips.

There is no city in America that loves its football more than Dallas, and with a brand new, one billion dollar football stadium scheduled to open up in the Dallas Metro area for the beloved Dallas Cowboys, getting a ticket to a game is a must. This palace is scheduled to be far more than just a place to play football. It will contain shopping malls, restaurants, theme park rides and who knows what else. While the stadium will be primarily the home of the National Football League’s Dallas Cowboys, it is expected to be the home of several local college teams as well as high school teams, so if you can’t get a ticket for the big game, you should have several other opportunities to visit this incredible new facility.

Dallas is a city that knows how to preserve its history. The downtown core of Dallas is a splendid mixture of the old and the new. The city planners here haven’t let the glittering new office buildings push out all of the beautiful old brick buildings that helped to put Dallas on the map in the first place. Since summers here tend to be a bit on the hot side, take a crisp fall day to walk around downtown with a guidebook or you can even sign on with a local tour company for a guided tour, and learn about all of the spectacular history here.

The Best museums in Dallas

Saturday, March 06, 2010

When most people visit a city like Dallas, arts and culture usually aren’t at the top of the list of expectations, but Dallas is a city that will always surprise you. The city comes with a huge gay and lesbian community and a very liberal leaning inside the city limits. There are also dozens of top museums and art galleries just waiting for people to explore them. Let’s check out just a few of the top museums located inside the Dallas city limits.

One of the most amazing museums in the entire country is the Sixth Floor museum at Dealey Plaza. It is in this very building that suspected gunman Lee Harvey Oswald shot and killed President Kennedy as he drove by in his limousine, and the city of Dallas has gone through great lengths to help recreate that terrible moment in time so that we may never forget it. Regardless of the personal politics you may have, visiting this sad and terrible museum is a must for all Americans.

The African American Museum of Dallas takes an honest and open look at the burden African Americans have had to shoulder over the last 200 plus years. The museum takes a frank and honest look at slavery and the time that has passed since then and gives credit to local Dallas activists who have worked long and hard for the rights African Americans have today. The museum isn’t all depressing; it serves as inspiration and as a cautionary tale to future generations to treat everyone with respect and kindness.

The Dallas Conspiracy Museum is a perfect place to check out the unseemly connections that many assassinations in the Dallas area and around the world may or may not have. The museum does a great job of pointing out possible conspiracies without trying to convert anyone to either side of thinking. For an interesting afternoon that is sure to get everyone talking, check out the Dallas Conspiracy museum.

Registering to vote in your new apartment in Dallas

Saturday, March 06, 2010

With so many close presidential elections occurring in recent memory, voter registration is at an all time high. Registering to vote is easy and in most cases, all you have to do is go down to city hall and talk to the supervisor of elections to do what you need to do. However, if you are short on time or if you are registered in another state, there may be some extra work for you to do. Let’s take a look at some alternate places where you may be able to sign up to vote.

Although it is not in place everywhere, the Motor-Voter bill allowed many Department of Motor Vehicles offices to register you to vote when you picked up your license. If you have moved to Dallas from out of state, it is a good idea to get your driver’s license changed over as soon as you can. Check to see if you can change over your address there or if you have to make a separate trip to city hall to do so.

If you were already a registered voter from another state, you may have to fill out an extra form either online or in person at city hall. It is illegal to vote in more than one precinct in one election, and it will help the local voter rolls in your old home town if you let them know that you no longer live there. You will likely have to present two forms of identification, such as a driver’s license, birth certificate or passport, to move your voter registration over to your new address. Make sure you put your change in at least a month before the next election as most areas do not allow people to register to vote or change their voting address on the same day as the vote is actually being held

Getting to know the best in Dallas Sports

Saturday, March 06, 2010

Cities in the southern part of the United States tend to have a bad reputation when it comes to being sports fans. Since so many residents of cities like Miami, Atlanta, and even Dallas come from up north, arenas and stadiums are sometimes full of fans cheering for the away team instead of teams based in Dallas. If you aren’t familiar with the successful major sports clubs in Dallas, let’s take a closer look at who is who.

The best known team in Dallas, and one of the best known teams in the world, is the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys. Winners of multiple Super Bowls, the Cowboys are almost always playoff or even Super Bowl contenders and with a brand new, one billion dollar stadium opening up in 2009, they are not only the marquee team in town but they a top sports franchise any way you want to look at it.

While the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks can’t claim the same number of championships that the Cowboys have, they actually don’t have any, they are also very competitive each and every year thanks to the backing of Internet billionaire owner Mark Cuban. With Cuban’s financial muscle and a good front office, the Mavs made it to NBA finals for the first time in 2006.

Formerly owned by President George W. Bush, the Texas Rangers baseball team has had even less luck than the Mavs, although with a promising young nucleus and some of the best hitters in baseball, the future looks bright for this Arlington based franchise.

Finally, the Dallas apartments Stars moved from Minneapolis and almost immediately brought a Stanley Cup championship to the Metroplex. They almost always make the playoffs and most fans agree that no in-person arena sport matches the excitement of a good old hockey game.

Finding the best Wi-Fi spots in Dallas

Saturday, March 06, 2010

There is no doubt that more and more people are dumping their cumbersome desktop computers and making the switch to laptops, but some folks are balking at the cost of wireless Internet. That’s why it is always important for people to know where their cities wireless internet hot spots are, especially the free ones! Let’s take a look at who is allowing Dallas residents to get on the Information Superhighway for free.

If you enjoy reading, a trip to Barnes & Nobel is almost like going to Disney World. It doesn’t matter if you enjoy light magazine reading or if you are looking for a copy of Crime & Punishment, Barnes & Nobel has it all, and it also has free wireless Internet in all of their Dallas apartment area stores. Since B & N often provides comfy chairs and tables, as well as coffee and snacks, some folks make it an afternoon by heading out to their local bookstore for a snack and some web browsing.

If you are heading into or out of Dallas and or if you are there to pick someone up and their flight is delayed, don’t sweat it, simply grab your laptop and kill some time since all of Dallas-Fort Worth’s International Airport has free Wi-Fi. When you consider how overpriced everything else is at the airport, it is good to know you can get at least one thing for free there. You might want to stay away from the overpriced fast food and magazines, however.

If you are on the road and you need a quick bite to eat, almost all Dallas area McDonalds restaurants have free wireless Internet. In most cases, you can go through the drive-thru or get your order to go and then sit outside and use the Internet in your car. It isn’t the most convenient option, but any port in a storm will do.

Saturday, March 06, 2010

While you are sure to find more than your fare share of steak houses in Dallas, the fine dining scene here is far more complex than just beef. Dallas is one of the fastest growing cities in the country and this has contributed to a huge growth in the local restaurant industry. Let’s take a look at a few of the rising stars of the Dallas Metroplex dining community.

One of the best examples of how the Dallas culinary community has grown is Aurora. Who would have thought that Dallas, Texas would play host to one of the most respected French restaurants in the country? When you have a meal at Aurora, you not only get a meal that you will remember for years to come, but you get to see how it is all prepared, thanks to the unique and entertaining design of the kitchen and the surrounding crystal walls. The whole restaurant gets to see exactly how their meal goes for an order to a finished product.

Even though Dallas has been doing everything possible to diversify their restaurant community, no visit to this wonderful city is complete without a trip to a giant steakhouse. The city of Dallas has many fine steakhouses to choose from, including nationally renowned chains like Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse and many others, but most locals will agree that checking out one of the local steakhouses is the best bet. The Y.O. Ranch Steakhouse is one of the most popular destinations in the city for beef lovers. They also serve a full menu of game and hard to find items like quail. Dallas is also well know for Mexican and South American cuisine, too, so if you are feeling the urge for something a bit more spicy, you will have literally dozens of spots to choose from.
