Enjoying your Dallas Staycation

Saturday, March 06, 2010

With gas prices at or near all time highs, more and more people are looking at staycations, or vacations at home, instead of going away this year. The challenge that many people have is finding enough to do in your own home town to keep you busy during your time away from work. Here are a few easy tips for transforming your apartment from every day dull to staycation wonderful.

Try to plan your staycation around a particular event, say a favorite sporting event or an event you can attend in person. That way, you have a build up to your time away from work and a sort of grand finale to look forward to. This will give your time away from work a bit more meaning and it will help make it feel special.

Don’t be afraid to move around some furniture and relax. After all, this is your only staycation of the year, so why not pull up the blinds, clean those windows, move the sofa out of the way and get a tan, right in your own living room. Your home can truly be your palace if you want it to be, so don’t let convention get in your way.

Pick a night, or two, or three, to pamper yourself. Make your favorite meal with all of your favorite fixings and throw yourself a little one person party. If your idea of pampering includes bubble bath, candles and soft music, go all out and set up everything the way you always wanted to. Just because you are staying home this vacation, it doesn’t mean you can’t do something extraordinary during your time off.

Dallas is a city full of beautiful hotels, so why not pick the nicest one you can afford and stay for one night? This gives you a chance to pack a suitcase and get out of the house for a night. Take advantage of all of the hotel amenities as possible to really give yourself the feeling of being away from home.
